Digital Communication
Question 3:
The 'Internet of Things' is a system of computer devices or digital devices that provides a unique identifiers and which have the ability to transfer data over the network without the help of human-to-human interactions. An article written by Jesse DePinto, the product Manager at Telkonet, Inc. (2016) said that the 'Internet of Things' will have a big impact on the hospitality industry in 2020. She wrote that there are already seven trends that are beginning to have an impact on the industry. All this is changing the way guests will enjoy their stay at a fancy hotel.

In the future we can expect to see the following in the hospitality industry: Cross-selling, there are plenty new opportunities for hotel managers to cross-sell when a customer is booking for a room at a resort hotel, they can choose from a variety of beach wear online, which will be in their wardrobe when they arrive. In-room personalisation, every electronic device in the hotel room will have an IP address which will automatically recognise the guest's mobile phone's IP address and the settings will change according to the guest's preferences. Loyalty beyond reason, the IoT of the hotel industry has a way to connect with the guests in a much personalised way, which will improve the guest's loyalty (Schreyer 2015).
In conclusion the 'Internet of Things' (IoT) will have a positive impact on the hospitality industry in the future, but it is already happening today.
